A Northern Hemisphere Star Gazing Activity
Find and name the stars of the Summer Triangle!
Success is fun! The key to this activity is to go out when only the brighter stars are visible. Parents, could do this the night before so they know the best timing for their child's first try. For most northern latitudes it's easy to spot in the east in summer, and in the west in late autumn, but with the angle reversed.
To help find the Summer Triangle from your area, here's a few Voyager* screenshots of cities in a range of northern latitudes. Use these as a rough guide for where and when to look. The samples cities will work for estimating the best times from anywhere along or near a similar latitude. LMT=local mean time LDT=local daylight time.
*All images, are screenshots from Carinasoft Voyager. We've added star labels, time & direction to look, and latitude, (rounded when close to the next degree).
